What OYO Knows
Park Safety
OYO Knows How to Keep Your Park Experience Safe
At OYO, we prioritize safety and cleanliness to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors at Veterans Memorial Park. To maintain a safe environment, we’ve implemented several park rules: the park is smoke-free and pet-free, and firearms are not permitted at any time. For safety reasons, bikes and skateboards should be walked, not ridden, within the park.
What’s more, we offer four shelters near the back fields to protect families from foul balls and the sun, creating a more comfortable viewing experience. To further protect everyone, we’ve designated specific warm-up areas, eliminating the swinging of bats and throwing of balls outside the fenced fields.
Lastly, for the safety of your vehicle, please remember to lock your car and keep valuables out of sight, as OYO is not responsible for lost or stolen items. These rules are in place to help you, and your family enjoy your time at the park with peace of mind.
Player Safety
OYO Knows: Weather-Related Safety for All Our Players
At OYO, the safety of our participants and spectators is our top priority. In the event of severe weather, we have two key safety policies in place: Thunderstorms and Lightning, and Extreme Heat, which will be implemented by our Advisors on Duty (AODs).
Thunderstorms and Lightning
If thunder or lightning is heard or seen, all activities will be suspended immediately. Players and spectators must seek shelter in their vehicles or, if unavailable, the main concession stand/restroom. Play will be suspended for 15 minutes after the first thunder or lightning event, and the clock will restart if additional thunder or lightning occurs. Games will be postponed until it is safe to resume or until a final decision is made by the AOD or tournament directors.
Extreme Heat
When the heat index exceeds 95 degrees, AODs will remind coaches and parents to ensure athletes stay hydrated and take regular breaks. If the heat index reaches 105 degrees, it will be at the discretion of the AODs to cancel or reschedule games for safety.
We are committed to maintaining a safe environment for all and will continue to monitor weather conditions closely. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping everyone safe.
Rainout Policy
At OYO, we truly enjoy seeing all our ballplayers and teams take the field for practices and games. The sounds the ball snapping into a glove, a crack of the bat on a big hit, cheers from players and fans and the traditional end of game handshakes warm our hearts each and every day.
That said, sometimes Mother Nature has other plans for those who enjoy being outdoors and around the game of baseball and softball. And, with that comes inclement weather. Sometimes, it happens late enough before games begin that fields simply can’t recover in time, even if the sun is shining at game time.
As much as we want to play, we also value player safety. And in those unfortunate moments where we cannot even begin to ask your children to come play on the fields due to saturated conditions, it is a difficult call for us to make. We promise that when we can play, we will play.
Please keep in mind, the OYO Rainout Policy. Since 2007, our game schedule format accommodates rainouts. How? Simply, we always include in the schedule two or three more games (based on division) than the targeted number of games to be played for every team in every division. For example:
- Tee Ball and Challenger is scheduled for 14 games, with goal of playing 12
- Junior Rookie is scheduled for 12 games, with goal of playing 10
- All other divisions are scheduled for 14 games, with goal of playing 12
We understand each and every family maintains a busy and hectic schedule every spring, so this scheduling format allows your family to plan for your entire regular season game schedule upfront and not need to scramble to accommodate rescheduled games this spring.
We truly and genuinely value your understanding and flexibility. As always, thank you for choosing OYO as your place for baseball and softball.
Scheduling
OYO offers a complete set of rec league, all-star and full-time travel programs as well as hosting multiple travel-related tournaments at Veterans Memorial Park.
Add all that up from spring to summer to fall, and the number of activities we schedule across our 14 fields are simply astounding.
More than 2000 practices, 1400 rec league games, 200 travel tournament games and 50 random alliance and travel games, plus batting cage reservations, would keep any facility hopping.
OYO has a dedicated scheduling committee that works tirelessly with various board members to ensure maximum usage of the fields is achieved and the latest schedule is up to date. What’s more, they also go the extra mile to accommodate individuals who are head coaches of multiple teams by mitigating practice and game conflicts to ensure their presence and participation.
