The Oaklandon All-Star Bombers offer a great transition from recreational league play to competitive travel baseball. For players ages 6 to 12, the program features local tournaments within an hour's drive, with manageable commitments and a challenging experience. 

Before we dive into details for the 2026 All-Star season, let’s answer a few common questions about our significantly revamped All-Star program for all interested baseball players!

 

How will the All-Star program change based on this accelerated timeline?

• Coach Selection | Takes place in October (vs. February/March)
• Player Selection | Tryouts scheduled for October following the conclusion of the Fall Ball season (vs. March/April at the beginning of the Spring Season)
• Player Eligibility | Any player selected for a 2026 team must register, pay rec league registration in full and participate in the 2026 OYO Spring Season to remain eligible as an All-Star Bomber
• Age Eligibility | Interested players must not be older than the team’s age as of April 30, 2026. 
• Team Roster Size | This is left to the discretion of each coach on how they wish to construct their rosters (as some may choose to leave 1-2 spots open and conduct a supplemental tryout next spring involving all returning and new incoming players)
• Team Schedule | In preparation for and during the 2026 OYO Spring Season, teams will:
  • practice this fall outdoors at OYO when weather permits
  • begin indoor workouts in January
  • be assigned to and join their rec league teams in mid-March
  • continue to convene as an all-star team on Sundays during the rec league season
  • participate in 4-6 tournaments following the conclusion of the rec league season
• Team Fees | While the player fees will remain affordable, they will increase compared to past seasons to account for team costs associated with conducting indoor workout sessions this winter
• Spring Season Rec League Roster Assignments | All All-Star players will be evenly distributed across all teams in the player’s respective division

 

Who is eligible to participate in tryouts?

We offer Bombers teams in six age groups for baseball players (based on age as of April 30, 2026). Both returning and new players are welcome to participate in the OYO All-Star tryouts. If a player did not participate in a rec league season at OYO in 2025 (or before) — but will commit to registering and participating in the 2026 OYO Spring Season — they may attend the tryouts for a 2026 All-Star team.

Tryouts for the 2026 All-Star Bombers will be held on the following dates at Veterans Memorial Park. All tryouts will take place in October 2025.

Players are required to attend a minimum of one tryout session, but attending as many as possible is encouraged to allow coaches to fully evaluate each player. If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled tryouts, please reach out to the coach of your child's age group to discuss potential alternatives. While we will do our best to accommodate conflicts, private tryouts are not guaranteed.

 

Schedule

While the final schedule for each team will vary, below is a general expectation of what each All-Star Bombers family can expect on a month-by-month basis.

• October | As scheduled
  • Attend at least one, if not multiple, tryouts as scheduled above
  • Teams selected and announced by the head coach

• Fall | As scheduled
  • Attend one weekend practice and possibly one weeknight practice, space-permitting

• January-March | As scheduled
  • Attend one weekly indoor winter workout session at indoor facility located in Lee Road Park

• March-April | Sundays only
  • Participate in practices on Sundays in early April to foster team development
  • Possibly participate in a Sunday Showcase round robin locally in late April at a local park (or maybe OYO)
  • No activity on Easter Sunday

• May | Mostly Sundays only
  • Participate in either practices, doubleheaders or Sunday Showcase round-robin games on Sundays
  • Possible practice on Memorial Day weekend, but may be on Saturday, Sunday or Monday that weekend

• June
  • Sunday, May 31 | Participate in David Manlove Memorial Tournament
  • June 19-21 | Possible tournament weekend locally or practice time at OYO
  • Week of June 22 | Scheduled practice time
  • June 26-28 | Participate in Bill Sturm Memorial Tournament
  • Week of June 29 | Scheduled practice time

  • July 3-5 | Possible tournament weekend (or weekend off based on player availability)

Fees

Player fees for participation will vary based on several factors, including uniform packages, the number of tournaments selected, and other expenses. While costs are estimated to range between $250-375, final amounts may differ depending on specific team needs.
