Park Prep Day Canceled, Two Ways for You to Help Now

We’re all excited about heading to the ballpark and starting up our long-awaited Spring Season of baseball and softball. But the latest forecasts are consistently calling for one more winter blast through Central Indiana this weekend. As a result, the weather conditions will not be conducive to working on the fields and common areas. So, the Park Prep Day scheduled for Saturday, March 12 is canceled. That said, there are still two ways you can help make a difference in preparing Veterans Memorial Park for our 2022 Spring Season. With a little bit of help from each of our ballplayers and families, our park can be amazing all season long. Make OYO a place you look forward to coming to each and every day!

OPTION 1 | Work as a Team on Your Field … Rally up the parents on your team to work on your field before, during and after practices. Or even take 15-20 minutes at the beginning or end of your practice to do some basic field maintenance work. Simple, small tasks such as:

  • Hand rake entire field (using the rakes in the nearest storage shed)
  • Ensure all dugout-area signage has zip ties in each hole/slot
  • Wipe down all benches and bleaches
  • Pick-up trash all around the field and along both sides of fence lines
  • Remove weeds along fence lines
  • Remove rocks from playing surface

If you will need supplies to help complete any of these tasks, email OYO’s Facilities and Ground Manager for assistance before your scheduled practice.

OPTION 2 | Save the Date for Rescheduled Park Prep Day … We will encourage players, families and coaches to help pitch-in for an hour before or after their practices on Saturday, April 9 (from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.) with a wide range of projects to help prepare the park for Opening Day the following weekend. This date also will serve as the “rescheduled” work day for OYO’s coaches to earn their credit as part of the OYO coaching incentive program.

If you have any questions or need something more, less or different about OYO’s fields or park prep programs, please contact an OYO board member at your convenience.

Thank you for choosing OYO as your place for baseball and softball.
