08U, JRO, RB | Coach Pitchers Can’t Coach (After Pitch)
We appreciate all the hard work and dedication shown by all our coaches in 2025. You are truly making a difference and doing a fabulous job on the field. That said, in one way, perhaps there is a little too much coaching happening on the field on game days in our 08U Softball, Junior Rookie and Rookie divisions. Here is an important rule clarification.
As stated in our rules for baseball and softball:
Base coaches are the only offensive coaches on the field allowed to coach offensive batters and runners. The coach-pitcher is not allowed to coach runners or batters once he/she has pitched the ball to the batter until the end of the play and the coach-pitcher has the ball in his/her hand.
Penalty: If the coach pitcher or the offensive coach coaches the batter runner or any runner verbally or nonverbally. The umpire goes to the defensive coach and asks them if they want to keep the play or redo the play if they coach the batter or runner after they release the ball.
If anyone has any questions or concerns or needs a rule clarification before their next game, please contact the Umpire Training Chairperson or Rules Chairperson at your convenience. Thank you for choosing OYO for your place for Baseball and Softball and we look forward to seeing you at the park soon.
