Makeup Game Plans for Weekend of June 13-15

OYO Fans:

Greetings! We have enjoyed an exciting first four days of the 2025 OYO Spring Season Tournament with many fantastic and memorable finishes. In fact, one of our long-standing umpires remarked how competitive and balanced our divisions are in 2025. The message we received read, “I am impressed with how many close games there have been early in this tournament. Commissioners deserve credit for putting together some balanced teams!!”

With that feedback and encouragement, we want to get back on the field again as soon as possible so our players, coaches, fans and even umpires can enjoy many more exciting moments on the field in the days ahead on the road to the championship game.

INDIANA WEATHER CONTINUES TO BE CHALLENGING

As we have done much of this spring, our fiercest competition may not be on the field this weekend (and beyond) but from Mother Nature alone. We have been monitoring the weather forecast for this week (and even early next week) closely for several days. And we recognize, many reports are not favorable. So, as we do best at OYO we strive to learn valuable life lessons on how we plan and execute our game day experiences. Admittedly, last Saturday (June 7) was a challenging experience for all of us. And, our communication left lots of room for improvement. So, we promise to do better this weekend…starting right now.

OUR COMMITMENT TO FINISH THE TOURNAMENT ASAP

On that note, we are juggling four variables — Indianapolis weather, Father’s Day activities, all-star team tournaments and pre-set family vacations timed for the projected completion of the rec league tournament. Our commitment is to finish each division’s rec league tournament as soon as we are able.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Simply, be ready to come out and help, if we need help. Sometimes, we just need to let water drain a little. Other times, we need all hands on deck. No matter the situation, when the weather throws us an untimely curve hall, we need our amazing and wonderful parents to support our league volunteers and whip the park back into shape for games! When you arrive, a volunteer OYO grounds crew member or board member will be able to assist you on the best way you can help recover our fields, whether it be by removing water, raking key areas, delivering product to certain fields or more. If unsure where to go, either stop by the three-garage barn or report directly to your scheduled field and help will be there shortly. Again, what makes OYO great is our people and their willingness to go the extra mile for our ballplayers and fellow families.

HOW CAN YOU STAY INFORMED?

Utilize the OYO Weatherline to be your primary source of information this weekend (as always). The OYO Weatherline number is 317.767.5170. When time and technology access present itself, we will attempt to supplement the Weatherline updates with emails, texts or social media updates. However, depending on our whereabouts and resources, those secondary avenues for updates may not always be feasible.

ALTERNATE PLAN LINEUP

As we monitor the weather, we could experience delays and cancellations as early as Friday evening and as late as Sunday morning. Our hope is we apply Murphy’s Law to fend off the latest threats of rain at Veterans Memorial Park. Quite simply, we’ve invested hours into Plan B, C, D, E and even F scenarios. Regardless of what happens weather-wise, we have a plan. And we want to share how we will roll this weekend, especially considering it is Father’s Day weekend, so you can anticipate the changes even before they are announced. To accomplish this goal, in the event of any rain delays or postponements, we have the following six rescheduling plans prepared.

  • PLAN A | No Cancellations
    • Play all games as scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend
  • PLAN B | Friday Night Is Canceled/Suspended, but Saturday Is Playable Starting at 9 a.m. | The following changes happen:
    • Call the Weatherline at 317.767.5170 for updates starting at 4:30 p.m. on Friday
    • All Friday night games will move to 9 a.m. on Saturday
    • Most Saturday game times slide back one time slot (9:00 to 11:00, 11:00 to 1:15, 1:15 to 3:30 and 3:30 to 5:45)
    • Saturday 5:45 p.m. games will move to Sunday at 1:15
    • Sunday game times slide back one time slot (1:15 to 3:30 and 3:30 to 5:45)
    • 14U/16U team photos on Saturday will have new photo times and 9:00 a.m. games will be played at either 1:15 or 3:30
    • JBB team photos and game schedule remain intact
    • CH and TB games will be rescheduled between Monday, June 16 thru Thursday, June 19 (and the Future of OYO Parade unfortunately will be canceled)
  • PLAN C | Friday Night Is Played to Completion, but Saturday Needs a Delayed Start Time | In this scenario:
    • Call the Weatherline at 317.767.5170 for updates starting at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday
    • All parties (players, coaches, fans, umpires, concessions staff, etc.) need to remain flexible and prepare for a dynamic schedule throughout the day
    • When it comes to scheduling, the tournament now utilizes a sequential scheduling format, we must play each block of games (e.g. 9:00 before 11:00 and 11:00 before 1:15, etc.)
    • While most of the 9:00 a.m. games on Saturday are not tournament-related, nearly all the other games scheduled at 11:00, 1:15, 3:30 and 5:45 are dependent on prior outcomes. So, we must play these in sequence. And to do so, your game times may need to slide back if we are only able to accommodate a partial day schedule.
  • PLAN D | Friday Night Is Played to Completion, but Saturday Postponed to Sunday | Then this is pretty simple, the entire Saturday schedule is played exactly as it appears but on Sunday.
    • Call the Weatherline at 317.767.5170 for updates starting at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday
    • The first games will be at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, including the TB and CH games which will be followed by the Future of OYO Parade procession.
    • The two slots of games originally scheduled for Sunday (1:15 and 3:30) will move into Monday and Tuesday and this will create a domino effect of game time changes during the week for the rec league tournament divisions as well as 14U/16U Softball.
    • Team Photos for JBB and 14U/16U will still take place, too.
  • PLAN E | Friday Night Is Played to Completion, but Saturday Postponed and Sunday Start Time Is Delayed | A few wildcards are included in this scenario, including:
    • Call the Weatherline at 317.767.5170 for updates starting at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday
    • The originally scheduled 9:00 a.m. games (plus team photos for JBB and 14U/16U) will align with the first available time slot when fields are ready
    • We will play as many of the time slots as possible (those game times are 9:00, 11:00, 1:15, 3:30, 5:45)
    • What is not fit into Sunday will be reflected in a revamped schedule for the remainder of the tournament
  • PLAN F | Friday Night Is Played to Completion, but Saturday and Sunday Postponed to Week of June 16
    • Call the Weatherline at 317.767.5170 for updates starting at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday
    • A completely revamped schedule will be released by Sunday evening and games will be played in many divisions into the week of June 23

THANK YOU!

We understand we’ve shared a lot of detail and insight into our approach to this weekend. For now, we simply ask for positive thoughts that any rain projections steer clear of Veterans Memorial Park this weekend. And, as always in these challenging moments, we ask for patience, understanding, support and grace during these rapid-pace moments as we try to serve all 1050 players from 750+ families on 90 teams this spring. Once again, thank you for choosing OYO as your place for baseball and softball!
